I'm Only A Crack In This Castle Of Glass

While the rest of the country seems to be dusted and draped in soft blankets of snow, the south coast has so far been deprived of the white stuff, and blessed with blue skies and sunshine instead. The bright skies have been welcomed after all the rain we've had recently, but I can't deny how much I wish the snow had reached us here, too. I'm just a big child when it comes to snow, I love it!

I'm still staying with my sister away in Portsmouth, and when we awoke to gorgeous blue skies on Tuesday morning, we decided to make the most of the weather and ventured outside

My sister drove us to Portchester Castle, which is an old 11th century medieval castle built on the site of a Roman fortress from the 3rd century. (Yes, I did have to google some of that). The castle is right on the water and it even has it's own real live moat. I'd never been before, but it was a place my sister and brother-in-law regularly walked their dog. It's been a week since she was put to sleep, so my sister was eager to return to conquer that horrible hurdle. I think it was easier than she feared.

We had a lovely dawdle (read: hobble) around the edges of the castle where a path divides the grounds and a very calm sea. It was in fact my first outing to anywhere other than hospitals or shops in sixteen months, and since I love the sea, I think this was a good choice! It was quite pretty and I loved the smell of the sea air. It was a beautiful day, but don't let these pictures fool you, it was bitterly cold, and I was hobbling about like a crotchety old lady. I had to stop a few times to rest- but I made it!

We managed to snap a few photos, too, which means... I have an outfit post to share that was actually taken outside and away from home! I may just die from shock!

I was wearing my red polka dot tea dress over purple leggings, and then layered my fox jumper over the top, and added the teal snood for warmth. You can't see them very well, but I'm wearing flat black patent ankle boots which have a tie detail to the outer sides, and are intentionally designed to be loose fitting around the ankles. The bag I was using was borrowed from my sister. It's a purple, studded, quilted chain bag, and I wish I'd bought myself one when I had the chance.

What I Wore
Dress: M&Co
Jumper: Dorothy Perkins
Leggings: Evans
Boots: Evans
Bag: Accessorize
Snood: ASOS

I actually like how these pieces looked together. I was only attempting to piece something warm together from the limited garments in my suitcase so I didn't freeze, but it seemed to work okay.

The little outing was quite tiring on my back, so we spent the evening curled up with a few movies. Hopefully we'll attempt this walk again before I return home in a few days; I think the sea air did me good.

So, own up: who's stolen all the snow in the UK this week?

    1. I'm just as excited by the snow today as I was when I was little. I love it. Glad you share the love of it! Thanks Maria. I've always found water very comforting. I think it's because I spent so much time at the beach and in the sea when I was growing up xx
