Teal and Green Nails

Morning guys,

Just a quick nail of the day from me this morning.

This is how my nails were painted over the weekend, as I was in the mood for something a little cheerful and bright since the sun was shining (albeit ever so briefly). I used a lovely apple green Sally Hansen polish in Grass Slipper on my thumbs and ring fingers, and a mid green-teal Rimmel 60 Seconds in Sky High on all the rest of my nails. Although the green was captured pretty accurately in these photos, the teal is much darker and more green based then the blue the photos show. It's a beautiful nail colour, and happens to be one of my firm favourite polishes; I'm currently on my second bottle, and the great thing is, it's so pocket friendly! It retails around £3.50, and is currently just £2.50 on ASOS here.

I bought the Sally Hansen nail polish from Fragrance Direct, where it's currently being sold for just £1.49 (!), which is a snip compared to it's RRP of £4.99. I only recently saw it on sale in Superdrug for £6.99!! You can find it on Fragrance Direct here, along with other colours. I must add they're brilliant nail polishes, that handle beautifully, dry super fast, and remain chip free for days. What's not to love?

I hope you all have a great day. What are you all up to?

L'Occitane Make Up Haul and Reviews

A couple of weeks ago, I tagged along to Bicester Village with my sister to escape the asylum for an hour or two, she's made it her mission to get me out of the house whenever I feel up to being out of bed for a little while.

Bicester Village is a well known outlet village situated in north Oxfordshire, and one of the best in the country with around 130 high-end and designer boutiques. Most of the brands are a little too expensive for my budget, but I always enjoy browsing, and taking in the atmosphere as it's so relaxed and pleasant. We're lucky to have it so close to home.

My Sister went to stock up on a few craft items from Cath Kidston, and I unexpectedly found myself coming home with some L'Occitane goodies.

I went in to L'Occitane, thinking perhaps I could treat myself to a hand lotion, or a shower gel, but the moment I stepped in the store my eyes were drawn to some beautiful make up. I didn't even know L'Occitane made make up- and I worked in a company who sold their products!

The make up was heavily discounted, and I caved and treated myself to the five make up items above; a mixture of eyeshadows, face powders, blushers, and/or highlighters. I spent less than £20 in total, for more than £65 worth of make up!

I'm going to quickly talk about each one, so my apologies for the very long post.

L'Occitane En Provence Pivoine Flora Duo Eyeshadow in Envolee Lilas- Teinte 4

First up is an Eyeshadow Duo in Envolee Lilas, which is just beautiful.

It comes packaged in a pretty box made from card obtained from sustainable forests.

The product itself is displayed in a sturdy cardboard compact, which I personally think feels well made, and looks attractive and expensive. The design itself is very pretty.

I was pleased to find the duo came with a mirror, and a double-ended applicator brush, as it's convenient for applying it on the go.

This eyeshadow duo is just beautiful! One side is a rich purple, and the other a warm taupe; both are shimmery shadows that can be worn alone, together, or mixed to create a third shade. The taupe can be used to highlight, and the purple to define.

Both colours are lovely, and felt silky smooth on my skin, which the packaging says is because the eyeshadows have been enriched with softening peony extract. I haven't yet used these shadows on my face, so I can't say how good the staying power is, but I'm impressed with them so far and can't wait to use them properly.

This was £4.20, RRP £14.00. It can be bought online full price here.

L'Occitane Pivoine Flora Face Colour Cream Duo in Arabesque Apricot- Teinte 2

As with the eye shadow duo, the face colour duo comes in pretty card packaging, with guidelines about how to use the make up on the back.

The compact has also been made from sturdy cardboard, and has an elegant ballerina style design to the front.

This set has a decent sized mirror on the inside, but unfortunately it doesn't come with applicator brushes or sponges, which would have been helpful for using it out and about.

But don't let that discourage you from buying one of these for yourself!

The duo features two cream face colours, one a lovely warm apricot, and the other in a golden beige. They can be used as you desire to illuminate and warm the face. I bought this to use specifically on my cheeks, and I'm so very glad I did!

I use the apricot as blusher, which is perfect for my very fair skin tone. It really warms my complexion. And I find the golden beige compliments the apricot nicely as a highlighter. I'm impressed with how easily they glide on to the skin, and after using these a few times I can happily report that they last well all day. And if that wasn't enough, the make up carries a delicate peach (apricot?) scent. I can't fault this duo! I hope to go back and pick up a couple for presents.

This one cost £4.20, RRP £14.00. It can be bought for full price online here.

The following three products I'm going to show you all come in small rectangular card boxes obtained from sustainable forests. The outer packaging is white and silver, which give the products a clean, expensive, chic appearance; the kind of packaging you'd expect to see from an upmarket brand in a boutique. The make up themselves are packaged in small circular cardboard pots. They look attractive, but I can't say how they'd hold up in a make up bag over time.

L'Occitane En Provence Fleur Cherie Face Colour Powder in Rose Falbala

This is a face colour powder duo, and the first product I was drawn to on entering L'Occitane's shop. One side is a dark, dusky purple, and the other a light rose pink, and they can be used wet or dry to create different intensities. The purple can be used to add definition, and the pink to brighten and highlight. They're enriched with softening orange blossom extract and this duo really is as soft as it's marketed to be.

I've used this duo a couple of times so far, and loved the results it gave. The pink was hard to photograph, but it's a shimmery pale pink, and really does illuminate the eyes when used on the lids and inner socket. The purple is a stunning two-tone, and looked striking paired with the pink. It's a great alternative to black for creating a smoky eye, too. They're both long-lasting, and remain in place for many hours without fading. I've fallen in love with this duo, and have to say I'm very impressed with it so far.

I paid £3.75 for it, RRP £12.50. It can be bought online full price here.

L'Occitane En Provence Face Colour Powder in Rose Dentelle

Rose Dentelle is a face powder containing softening orange blossom extracts which can be used  as a blusher or eyeshadow wet or dry. L'Occitane suggest using your fingers to dab it on to cheekbones and eyelids to brighten the face. The texture is very delicate, and it glides on easily. It's a pretty rose pink, and I think it makes a lovely blusher, but I'm not sure if I'd wear this shade on my eyelids. I've only worn it for testing purposes, so I'm unable to say how well it wears over the course of the day/night. We shall see!

It cost £3.75, RRP £12.50. It can be bought online full price here.

L'Occitane En Provence Fleur Cherie Face Colour Powder in Mousseline d'Argent

Mousseline d'Argent is another face colour powder containing softening orange blossom extracts for a silky touch. This one is a beautiful shimmery white powder with silver sparkles, which is perfect to high light various areas of the face such as eyes, cheekbones, and brow bones. It can also be worn wet or dry to create different looks and intensities. I've used this powder a couple of times, and it glides on beautifully, and really makes the eyes pop. It also does a great job at making me look a little more 'alive' and fresh-faced. Every girl should have one of these powders in her make up bag!

It was £3.75, RRP £12.50. It can be bought online full price here.

The kind sales assistant also popped a few freebies in to my bag; five samples and a cosmetics bag!

I've not tried any of these things yet, but I was excited to receive a few free samples. Who doesn't love free cosmetics to try?

So, I'm so pleased I discovered this make up range, and I'm very impressed with all of them so far. Make sure you check the range out if you get the opportunity. They're available full price on their website, so get on down to Bicester Village to pick some bargains up if you can! I know I certainly intend to go back for more!

If you made it this far from start to end, thanks for sticking with me until the end! I promise my next post won't be so long!

Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday #7 : A Rainbow of Outfit Inspiration

Morning all,

I've put together a little polka dot outfit inspiration for you to sink your teeth in to today.

I went back through my Pinterest boards, and Tumblr to recover some of the polka dot outfits I'd squirrelled away for inspiration, and mostly chose "partial polka dot outfits" to share today. When I began to compile them to produce this post, I unintentionally turned it in to a polka dot rainbow! It wasn't planned, and I didn't think anything of it until I added a green skirt, and noticed the colours were in rainbow order! I couldn't have planned it better!

Enjoy...

I love how polka dots really do come in just about any colour you can think of; how diverse they can be, and how there's something to appeal to just about everyone's polka dot tastes.

I'm a fan of classic navy and red, but I'm partial to polka dots in most other colours too- particularly bright, cheerful yellow!

What about you? Which polka dot colours do you love to wear?

Twenty Questions: Part Two

Last week I posted the first part of a twenty-question challenge, and this post today is the second half, where I answer questions 11-20. You can see the first part here, and if anybody would like to give this post a go, too, please do! Just make sure you leave the link to your post so I can have a read!
11. What's the hardest part of growing up?

I think the realisation that life does not usually go the way we plan, and that it's not as easy as we think it will be. I always assumed my life would all make sense by eighteen, but at twenty-seven (almost twenty-eight) I still don't have my life in order, or any idea what to do with my life. And I certainly never expected to go through a life-changing (at least temporarily, anyway) set back in my mid-twenties, or to have battled depression since my teens. Nobody ever prepares you for that kind of life.

12. Describe 5 weaknesses and strengths you have.

What is this, a job interview??

Weaknesses

-I'm very shy, so I'm just so awkward all the time.
-I'm easily stressed under pressure.
-And I can be a moody bitch.
-I can be impatient at times.
-I'm never quite on time for anything... I always end up running five minutes late, or if I get somewhere on time it's by the skin of my teeth. It's not intentional, but it happens.

Oh, I hate talking about my 'strengths'; it's so immodest! I'll answer the question, but please know I'm not trying to brag...

Strengths

-Getting lost, even with a map to hand. I excel at that!
-I always try to make the best out of a bad situation.
-I know my way around a computer.
-I'm not bad at visual merchandising.
-I'm great at getting nail polish on everything but my nails...

13. What are your 5 greatest accomplishments?

-Definitely getting through the last nineteen months of constant unbearable pain, and somehow coping with my life being shattered beyond recognition because of it.

-This blog. I have it to thank for the above.

-Living for over a decade with depression, No easy feat, let me tell you.

I can't think of another two things I've truly accomplished...

14. What is the thing you most wish you were good at?

Writing, drawing/painting, making things, and being creative. I've always enjoyed doing these things, but I've never possessed any real talent for writing, or art.

15. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 15 years?

I've absolutely no idea. I never plan anything that far ahead. Hopefully I'll be fully recovered from my disc injuries, out of pain, living life to the full, and happy!

16. What's your favourite holiday and why?

In August 2011 I went to New York for a week with my older sister. It was my first time out of Europe, my first time on a long-haul flight, my first time to America, and a place I'd dreamt of going to my whole life but never imagined I'd experience.

I can't describe how exciting, overwhelming, and surreal it felt the first time I saw the sky line as a taxi drove us from JFK to Manhattan. We stayed in the most gorgeous hotel with really lovely staff (The Muse, in Times Square, FYI, and I highly recommend it), the weather was gloriously hot and humid the entire time (so welcomed when you live in England, trust me!), we got to see so many iconic sights and landmarks we'd spent a life time falling in love with from a far, made so many great memories, ate good food, and I loved every minute of it. It was one of the last fun things I did before I injured my back, so I'm still clinging on to those good memories, and I can't wait to go back to do it all over again.

17. If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be?

I've never really given this topic any thought in the past, so I really don't have any idea. A dinner with my idols would be a disaster and more than likely render me speechless and a trembling nervous wreck, so it probably wouldn't be a sensible idea to go ahead with...

18. What popular notion do you think the world has most wrong?

I think society's attitude regarding weight, size, and appearance. How we're taught from a young age that we have to be skinny to be desirable, attractive, worthy of living, and likable et cetra, as you can't possibly be any of those things if you're fat. *GASP!* And also how society as a majority believes fat people are all lazy slobs who sit around eating too much junk food while avoiding all forms of exercise. It's not true, (just as it's not true that all skinny people eat healthily, and exercise regularly), and even if it were, people shouldn't be concerning themselves with other people's bodies, which are none of their business.

19. What is your favourite part of your body and why?

My freckled skin, because I'm proud of my freckles. And also my hair because it's so thick and glossy.

20. List 10 things you'd like to be remembered for.

Ten things? I doubt people will even remember one!

I guess I'd just like people to remember me for who I am. Louise, the awkward, dress-loving, freckled girl, who wears a lot of polka dots, and crazy colourful eye make up. The girl who loves music and going to concerts; the girl who loves Linkin Park, and Fall Out Boy, and has been fan-girling obsessively over Boyzone and Ronan Keating since 1994. And mostly, I hope people will remember me for being a fighter, a decent person, and a loyal friend.

Aztec Polka Dots

Hey guys,

Just a quick post to share an outfit I wore over the weekend.

I've mostly been living in pyjamas this last week as I've been struggling to cope with my pain levels and standing up in general, but it was such a lovely day on Sunday I just couldn't lie around in thick PJs. Not that I'm complaining; I'm so pleased that the weather is finally warming up a little!

Warm weather calls for a floaty skirt, so I dug out my crazy ASOS midi skirt which has the loudest Aztec pattern in bold colours all over it, and little red pom poms a couple of inches above the hem! It's absolutely insane, but I'm quite fond of this skirt, and I particularly like the shape of it on me. This skirt was from last summer's collection, which you'll probably have seen on many a plus size blogger if you've been reading style blogs for some time. It may be old news, but I love to wear the clothes I love again and again, and this probably won't be the last time you'll see this skirt!

I decided to clash patterns for the look I was going for, and wore it with my new red polka dot Peter Pan collared top from Red Herring. I'm not sure what you guys think, but I actually really like how these pieces look together. I also wore it with a black Lovedrobe shrug, my Cath Kidston rose bracelet, and a red heart flower ring.

As you can see, the pattern is anything but discreet!

This flower ring is made up of lots of red love hearts!

And a bad photo of the Cath Kidston bracelet you've already seen four hundred times, and the lovely ring beside it.
