Polka Spotted Freckle Dotted Friday: Celebrity Fashionistas

Good morning lovelies,

I've put together a post of celebrity polka dot outfits for this week's Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday. 

I generally find most of my outfit inspiration from other bloggers and from people watching when I'm out and about, but sometimes an outfit worn by a celebrity catches my eye. Especially if they happen to be wearing a pretty polka dot dress. 

I had some such images collected together on Pinterest, but not enough to compile for a blog post. When I began searching for others on Google, it occurred to me that I couldn't think of famous plus size women whose style I admired. It's not that famous plus size ladies are unstylish, I just genuinely struggled to name plus size celebrities. Isn't that just a little bit sad? 

However, my inspiration comes from women of all shapes and sizes. When clothes on slim women clearly don't come in my size, it doesn't generally bother me. I can still appreciate the outfit, and draw inspiration from it. I can then find a way to buy and create a similar outfit with clothes in my size. I've certainly got a few ideas from these stylish ladies... I hope they inspire you, too.

Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday #7 : A Rainbow of Outfit Inspiration

Morning all, 

I've put together a little polka dot outfit inspiration for you to sink your teeth in to today. 

I went back through my Pinterest boards, and Tumblr to recover some of the polka dot outfits I'd squirrelled away for inspiration, and mostly chose "partial polka dot outfits" to share today. When I began to compile them to produce this post, I unintentionally turned it in to a polka dot rainbow! It wasn't planned, and I didn't think anything of it until I added a green skirt, and noticed the colours were in rainbow order! I couldn't have planned it better!

 I love how polka dots really do come in just about any colour you can think of; how diverse they can be, and how there's something to appeal to just about everyone's polka dot tastes.

I'm a fan of classic navy and red, but I'm partial to polka dots in most other colours too- particularly bright, cheerful yellow!

Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday #6 :Fifteen Bags

Bags are one of my main weaknesses, and my favourite item to accessorize with, so I've chosen to focus on polka dot bags for this week's Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday.

I actually don't own much in the way of polka dot bags; just a suitcase bag here, and a tote bag there, and a couple of bags with polka dot linings. I'd love to own any of the beauties above, but in particular I would love to own a polka dot satchel- or two. 

Zatchel's range of polka dot satchels is to die for, and I'm loving the  lilac and green colours from their pastel range, but I equally love the classic black and red, too. (1, 7, 10, 12). I also have a soft spot for the blue cotton Accessorize satchel (4), and have recently added the navy Fossil Key-Per satchel (6) to my wish list.

A brightly coloured polka dot bag is a fun way to add some colour and interest to a plain outfit, and if chosen wisely, the bag should last season after season since polka dots never really go out of style. These are just fifteen of the polka dot bags I stumbled upon on the Internet, but there are many more out that; something for every budget and taste.

My Polka Dot Collection Part Two: My Tops

Last Friday I shared my collection of polka dot dresses with you, and this week I'm going to show you my little collection of polka dot tops. 

This is part two in my polka dot collections mini series. You can see the first post here, if you so desire.



My wardrobe is full of colour, dresses, cardigans, prints, and polka dots!


I've had this pretty little navy blouse for two or three years now. I bought it from Dorothy Perkins as I couldn't resist the combination of navy and white polka dots, and crochet detail- it's just so lovely. It's fitted nicely on top, and then it flares out in to an A-line shape. It's without a doubt, one of the prettiest tops I own.


This one is a bubble-hem top with short sleeves and a lovely lace collar, and came from New Look Inspire a few years ago.  This is another pretty top, although bubble hems mostly just drive me insane as they never stay in place, and it's a little loose on top. I often find New Look Inspire clothes to be too big for me around the shoulders and chest; their sizing is usually very generous... does anybody else find that? I still love this top, though, and I enjoy wearing it from time to time.


This lovely black blouse is probably the oldest garment in my wardrobe. I remember wearing it as far back as 2008, but I'm not sure when I bought it exactly. I've always loved this top. It's so comfortable, soft, and classic, and the ruffles and capped sleeves actually soften and flatter my broad shoulders. (I've always hated my shoulders). I've worn this top with everything from jeans to cropped jeans and cargo trousers to skirts. This was another one of my Dorothy Perkins finds... They almost always have some polka dot beauties in their collections, and are one of the first places I'll head to if I'm looking for something dotty.


This is the latest polka dot addition to my wardrobe. This little red beauty is by Red Herring at Debenhams, and last week it was on promotion for just £9 instead of £18. I bought it to wear with my hummingbird print skirt, and because I haven't got enough red/red polka dots in my wardrobe. I'm smitten with it!


This orange tunic was a present from my Mum (although I chose it), and it came from M&Co last September. I've only worn it a couple of times so far, but I'm hoping to incorporate it in to my summer wardrobe somehow. I actually like wearing orange, but I own very little of it.


And last but not least is my white and blue polka dot cardigan from F&F at Tesco. I bought this cute cardigan last summer, but only wore it for the first time about a week ago. I'm sure going to wear it to death this Spring,  especially now the weather is getting a little warmer. Considering it's from a supermarket, I think the quality of it is fantastic. It's far nicer than a lot of what can be found on the high street... and was probably a little cheaper, too. And, of course, if something has polka dots on it I'm more likely than not going to love it!

So, that was my polka dot tops collection...

Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday #3

Good morning guys and a Happy Good Friday to you all, as well.

For today's Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday, I have a little bit of inspiration for you. I've compiled ten images I've collected on Pinterest which give you a little peek at ten polka dot outfits. Enjoy!


Navy polka dots are my favourite, and this a-line skirt is so beautiful. It looks perfect with that lovely lacy blouse and bow waist belt.


Spots or stripes? Who cares, wear both! Polka dots look fantastic with stripes!


Another great example of how well stripes and spots work together.


Such a cute collar.


A pair of Converse add a quirky, laid back edge to a pretty dress.


This lovely yellow skirt looks so cute with a white and navy striped motif tee. I'll be remembering this one for future reference.


This green polka dot skirt is gorgeous.

I love the delicate polka dots on this pale salmon Peter Pan collared dress.


And this one proves polka dots don't have to be just navy or red. I really like the warm Autumn shades to this outfit.

Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday #2

Last week I began a new feature on my blog called 'Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday'; a feature that focuses on all things spotted, dotted, and freckled.

Today's Polka Spotted, Freckle Dotted Friday is putting the spotlight on polka dot nail art. I've collected together over twenty of my favourite dotty nail art images from Tumblr and Pinterest, and brought them all together for your viewing pleasure.











Which image is your favourite?

Incorporating polka dots in to your outfits with nail art is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to wear them. Wearing polka dot clothes and accessories isn't everybody's cup of tea; and the thought of dressing in print can be daunting to many, but decorating your nails needn't be scary- polka dot nails can be as subtle or as bold as you like. And better still, they can be created in pretty much any colour combination you desire to match your personality, style, outfit, or mood.

Basic polka dot nails are easy to create using a dotting tool, or the dotting tool on a nail art pen. Just paint your nails in a couple of coats of your chosen polish, and leave them to dry for five or ten minutes. Once the polish has set you can begin adding dots using a dotting tool, nail art pen, or even just the head of a kirby grip, pin, or nail dipped in nail polish. Choose a contrasting colour or colours, and dot the tool at random, or in a sequence, if you prefer, over each nail. Leave them to dry, and voila! Polka dot nails!

Just don't add a top coat over the polka dots, as it will smudge those little dots and ruin your work of art.

I personally love giving myself a polka dot manicure. I haven't got the steadiest of hands, but they're fun to do, and my technique is slowly improving each time I attempt them.
