Wednesday Wish List

This week, I've been coveting...

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

Oh So Flamingo have released the cutest collection of baby farm animal brooches for spring, and I'm completely smitten with these four designs. They're so adorable! My favourite has to be Rosie the Calf, and I don't know how much longer I can resist her...

I definitely don't need any more colourful eye make up in my life, but this eyeshadow palette from MAC looks amazing. Look at those gorgeous colours! If colour isn't your thing, there are neutral versions in the collection to shop from, too.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

I'm loving the new Cath Kidston Fearne Cotton collection that was released last week. The new prints are to die for, and I particularly love the look of these bags, cases, and purses.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

These gingham and striped dresses from Lindy Bop are my idea of dress perfection.

This dachshund skirt from Lindy Bop is the cutest skirt I've ever seen! I hope they bring back the dachshund dress because I missed out on it last year and would love it in my life.

This acrylic daffodil necklace from I Am Acrylic is so lovely. It would be perfect for pairing with spring and Easter outfits.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8

And I'm loving so many of Lady Vintage's new Lady Voluptuous dresses which have just dropped for spring in sizes 14- 30/32. There are some fantastic prints and styles available this season. The only problem is, I can't decide which one I love best.

Vendula London Le Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag Review*

*AD- This post features a bag I was sent in exchange for a review. As always, all words, thoughts and opinions are my own and have been written 100% honestly.

When it comes to fashion, I've always had a weakness for handbags. Some women adore shoes, others love diamonds, but for me, it's always been about the bags. I love all kinds of different styles, but, as I'm sure most of you will know by now, I have a particular fondness for novelty designs and anything colourful. The quirkier the better.

One brand I have long admired for their quirky bags and purses is Vendula London, the British brand known for their iconic shopfront bags, so when they recently got in touch and invited me to review a bag from their new season collections, I couldn't have been more excited. Of course I said 'yes!'

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Blue and Cream

Vendula London sent me the beautiful La Bicyclette de Vendula Box Bag* from my short list of favourites, and when the bag arrived on my doorstep a couple of days later, I was instantly blown away by how stunning it was. It was even more beautiful than I had imagined it would be, and it unsurprisingly attracted much jealousy from my Mum and sister who both keep trying to steal it! I can't say I blame them, but they won't be prising this bag from my hands any time soon- I love it too much to let go!

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Blue and Cream

The La Bicyclette de Vendula Box Bag is a beautiful sky blue and cream vegan-leather bag featuring one of Vendula London's brand new shopfront designs for 2019- a charming bicycle service and repair shop! I thought there couldn't possibly be any shops left for Vendula London to immortalise in to handbags, but they've gone and proved me wrong with this wonderfully unique design. A bicycle service and repair shop bag?! I really have seen everything now!

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Blue and Cream

Like Vendula London's other iconic shopfront bags, whose handbag establishments include everything from post offices to pubs and chocolateries to toy shops, the bag has, obviously, been designed to look just like the front of a shop. The top of the bag has been made in to the shop's awning in scalloped stripes of blue and cream, but the pièce de résistance is the shop's window display which is filled with amazing detail that has to be seen to be believed. I notice something new every time I look at it.

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Blue and Cream

If you peek in the shop's window, you'll be transported to the sweetest bicycle repair shop you ever did see. On the left, there are shelves filled with storage boxes, cans of oil, and a blue bicycle helmet hanging above a red applique air machine. To the right, is a work station with tools hung on the wall above a table with a pink bike helmet sitting on top, and a couple of stools and storage boxes sitting neatly underneath it. Best of all, hanging from the shop's ceiling in the centre is a cheerful yellow bicycle and a sky-blue penny farthing, both with black trim, complimenting the pink applique vegan-leather bicycle with a wicker basket full of greenery parked on the pavement in front of the shop. The colourful bikes are easily my favourite parts of the design- they're so darn cute!

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Blue and Cream With Applique and Embroidery Details

The detail doesn't stop there; look closer still, and you'll see a sign for 'service & repairs' in the window, and find the shop walls are painted cream with a sea of cogs outlined in sky blue faintly embossing the lower half of the shop. If that wasn't enough, the arch of the window is framed with a garland of colourful flowers sewn on to the leather, and beside the bicycle on the cobbled-grey pavement is an embroidered pot plant with an applique pot.

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Blue and Cream with Applique and Embroidery Details

To the right of the window, the black and cream door is filled with colourful signs advertising 'REPAIRS DONE WHILE YOU WAIT!', 'SAME DAY REPAIRS', 'BICYCLES FOR RENT', and 'FREE AIR & OIL.' And hanging from the wall above the door by two little black plastic chains, is a crimped circular sign proudly advertising the shop's name, La Bicyclette De Vendula, in black, white, and pink so you know where to go for all your bicycle maintenance needs. The amount of detail that has gone in to this bag is just incredible.

If you thought the attention to detail was reserved for the front and outside of the bag, think again; Vendula London have given the back and inside of the bag just as much care and attention.

On the back of the bag, you'll find a bright yellow and black tandem bike parked in a bike rack, just waiting to be taken out for a spin, and there's also a small zipped pocket large enough to store your phone or keys safely away from pick-pocketers against your body.

The inside of the bag, in both the main compartment and the back pocket, has been lined with a fun London print, which is made up of iconic British paraphernalia like red telephone boxes, the Queen's guards, black cabs, post boxes, double decker buses, London Underground signs, penny farthings, and more on a cream cotton background. The print compliments the outer design perfectly, and if you're anything like me, you'll find yourself admiring it each time you reach in to the bag to grab something. It's almost as pretty as the outside!

You'll also find a zipped pocket for keeping valuables secure, and a generously-sized mobile phone pocket that should fit even the largest of today's smartphones sewn in to the lining in the main section of the bag.

The bag itself has been handcrafted from high-quality vegan-leather which looks and feels just like thick, good-quality leather, but with one simple difference- no animals were harmed to make it, which is fantastic! I admit I do buy leather products from time to time, but as a big animal lover, I prefer buying cruelty-free alternatives as much as possible because I hate the thought of animals suffering for fashion. It's so unnecessary when there are amazing cruelty-free options to shop from, like this one, and it's just one reason why Vendula London's products appeal to me.

Aside from the design and the quality, what I love about this bag is that it is the perfect size for every day use. It's neither too big or to small, and has more than enough room for the essentials. I can fit everything I need in it for a day on the go- including my chunky bridge camera and a book- with room to spare! I judge a good day bag on whether there's room for a paperback and my camera along with my other essentials, and the box bag definitely passes the test! It's the ideal size for everything from shopping trips to work, and sight-seeing to just doing the food shop in style.

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Blue and Cream With London Print Lining

Another detail which attracted me to the box bag is that it has an adjustable shoulder strap which can be worn on the shoulder and across the body, depending on your mood, outfit, and needs. I love having the option to sling a bag over my shoulder when my arms are tired, or I just need my hands free for other things.  The best part is the vegan-leather strap can be adjusted to seven different lengths, and it's long enough to wear comfortably. I'm 5'6" and if I wear it on the shortest notch on my shoulder and the longest notch across my body, the bag sits comfortably on my hip and top of my thigh respectively. Whether you're short or tall, slim or plus size, this bag should fit almost everybody comfortably, which is fantastic. There's are few things I hate more than finding a beautiful bag and then discovering the strap isn't long enough to be comfortable or practical. Well done, Vendula!

Now, it's unlikely that I will put this bag down long enough for it to gather dust, but if I do, I won't have to worry about it getting dusty because like all Vendula London bags, it comes with its own bright pink dust bag to keep it looking its best when its not in use. They really have thought of everything.

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Pink Vendula London Dust Bag

The Le Bicyclette de Vendula box bag retails for £78, which I personally think is really reasonable for a handcrafted bag of such high quality, especially with all that applique and embroidery detail which takes time and skill to create. I couldn't be more impressed with it; it's stunning, it's quirky, and fantastic quality, and I know I'm going to be using it for many years to come. You can find it on their website here or if you're in London, why not check it out in person in their Covent Garden store?

Vendula London La Bicyclette De Vendula Box Bag in Blue and Cream

If the box bag isn't your style, the Le Bicyclette de Vendula design comes in a wide range of different styles, with another six bags and seven wallets and purses to choose from, all featuring this beautiful blue and cream bicycle repair shop. The collection includes Vendula London's coveted grab bag, an interchangeable backpack, and the loveliest little coin purse, with prices starting at just £19. You can shop the full collection here and of course, browse the rest of their fabulous designs on their website now. I promise you won't be disappointed.

What do you think of the design? Will you be buying anything from the collection this spring?

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

A very random assortment of brooches and necklaces I have my eye on from Tatty Devine.

1 // 2

I really like this cross body bag and wallet from Cath Kidston. Their new Birds and Berries print is so pretty I'm almost willing to overlook the butterflies.

1 // 2

This Moomin make up bag and matching wallet from Truffle Shuffle are too cute! Who else loved The Moomins when they were growing up?

I need this Labyrinth brooch set from Baccurelli! OMG!

Lady Vintage have released their iconic Hepburn dress in a bunch of new prints for spring (currently available to preorder in sizes 8- 26/28), and these four beauties have been sending my heart all aflutter. I'd particularly love to add the Tiki Flamingo print number to my collection. It would be perfect for summer.

And Kitschy Kittens have just launched the cutest collection of acrylic brooches that would be perfect for spring and Easter. I want that adorable Mother Duck brooch (#1) in my life- so, so cute!

Wednesday Wish List

Hey guys,

I'm sorry it's been so quiet on the blog again this week; my chronic illnesses have all been particularly challenging lately, and I've been struggling with a really bad arthritis flare up in my hands which has been making it difficult and painful to type. I've also come down with another cold, just a couple of weeks after shedding my last one, so I'm basically just a big hot mess at the moment who isn't much use to anyone.

My hands thankfully aren't too painful today (at least right now; give it a couple of hours) so I'm pushing through the fact I feel like death to put this week's wish list together, and afterwards I'm going to finish working on an exciting product review I have in the works that I can't wait to share with you (hopefully) later this week.

It's just a small wish list this week, but here are a few things I'm coveting right now...

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

I'm loving these gorgeous gingham swing dresses and rainbow heart tees from Collectif.

How cute is this acrylic Luna Lovegood brooch from La Vidriola?! OMG!

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

These dresses and skirts from Hell Bunny would be absolutely perfect for Easter and spring. The links will lead you to the plus size pieces, but there are also separate straight-size listings on their website for you slimmer ladies.

I've always been more of a colourful eye make up girl, but I have to say the Naked Reloaded eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay is currently calling my name. So many gorgeous shades.

This mustard tea dress from Lindy Bop is stunning. That colour! I already own a few of these Kody tea dresses, but I could definitely make room for one more...

1 // 2

If you love dressing for the seasons, this cherry blossom brooch and matching necklace from I Am Acrylic would make the perfect accessories now that the blossom is starting to bloom again. Aren't they pretty?!

Wednesday Wish List

Here are a few things I've been coveting this week...

Just when I thought I couldn't love Erstwilder more, they go and release a Beatrix Potter collection! Yes, ladies and gents, these are Beatrix Potter brooches, earrings, and a necklace! OMG! I grew up reading Beatrix Potter's stories and have always loved her characters and illustrations, so I can't help loving this collection. Sadly, as expected, the vast majority of the range sold out within hours when they went on sale on Monday morning, and as I forget to set my alarm, I missed my chance at getting my hands on any of the ones I wanted. I would've loved to have added Jemima, Peter or Jeremy Fisher to my brooch collection, but I guess it wasn't to be. I'm hoping some of the designs may get restocked but in the meantime, you can shop the pieces still available on Erstwilder's website, and through their stockists worldwide here

1 // 2 // 3

Here's a revelation: I've never actually watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit all the way through, but that doesn't mean I'm not going crazy for the entire Ciaté Jessica Rabbit make up collection. The eyeshadow palette, highlighter, and lipstick all look amazing!

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

I didn't think Cath Kidston's new season lines could possibly get any better, and then they went and released these beautiful coral leather bags and purses. I'm in love! If coral isn't your thing, they also come in other colours including grey, blue, and yellow.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

I'm loving this collection of funky flamingo jewellery from Tatty Devine. These statement pieces would be perfect for summer accessorising.

Yellow is one of my favourite colours and I love rainbows, so I can't help loving these bright and cheerful yellow Gola trainers. You couldn't fail to be happy wearing shoes as colourful as these.

1 // 2

I haven't bought any new clothes in ages as my budget just won't stretch to it right now, but I'm really tempted by this pretty polka dot tea dress, and fun bright spot t-shirt from ASOS Curve Design. The tea dress looks perfect.

If you'd like to see more of the fashion pieces I have my eye on at the moment, check out my style wish list boards on Pinterest. I regularly pin pieces I'm coveting, and many of them never make it in to these wish lists. You can also find all previous Wednesday Wish List posts here.

Currently | March 2019

It's been more than three months since I last wrote a currently post about the little things I've been doing and enjoying lately, so I think it's a good time for a catch up. If you want to know what I've been reading, watching, listening to, and more lately, keep reading to find out!

Let's start with what I've been reading...

Reading

One of my New Year's resolutions is to read more this year, and in January I set myself the goal of finishing twenty-five books before the year is through. I thought I'd be realistic instead of setting the number too high, but I may have underestimated myself because I'm already on my seventh book of the year! I finished five books (and began a sixth) in January alone! I didn't do so well in February, only managing two books, as I had a busier month and spent half of it with a cold.

In January, I read Bird Box by Josh Malerman (which has to be one of the best books I've ever read), VOX by Christina Dalcher, The Next Person You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom, A House at the Bottom of a Lake by Josh Malerman, and The First Phone Call From Heaven by Mitch Albom. I also read a few chapters of The Martian by Andy Weir, but I wasn't in the right mood for it so I put it aside to read The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker. I've now moved on to the third book in The Extinction Trials trilogy- The Extinction Trials: Rebel by S.M. Wilson, which I've been looking forward to since I finished the second book in the series last year.  It's like the Hunger Games meets Jurassic Park, and even though it's a young adult series, I'm really enjoying it so far- but, then, I've always been a sucker for dystopian fiction.

Before Christmas, I also read Desert Flowers by Paul Pen, and some of the stories and poems from A Literary Christmas. I didn't have much time or energy for reading in December so I never finished it, but it's one of those books you can pull out every Christmas and read again and again, so I'll definitely return to it in December.

Overall, I've read some amazing books over the last few months, so I'll do my best to write some mini reviews of them all soon... That is, if anyone would be interested?

Watching

With all the reading I've been doing, I haven't watched a lot of new shows or movies so far this year, but I did make time to watch Bird Box on Netflix after I finished the book in January. I enjoyed it, but nowhere near as much as I loved the book. I didn't like how much they'd changed the storyline, and kept comparing the two in my head. Don't get me wrong, it was a brilliant film, but I think I would have appreciated it a lot more if I hadn't read the book first. It's a thousand times better than the film, and you guys need to read it! I loved it so much it's become one of my all time favourite reads!

Concert Going

During the first week of February, I managed to have some fun away from home for the first time since last Easter, and went to see Boyzone live again in Cardiff and Brighton with my sister. It didn't exactly go to plan after the first show, but both shows were amazing, and I had so much fun. I'm always happiest at concerts and it was exactly what I needed to put a smile back on my face again after a rough few months. For a couple of days, I was almost able to feel like the old me again, pre chronic pain and chronic illness, and that feeling alone was priceless. I'll be writing a separate post about our trip soon.

Listening

Since I went to see Boyzone live, I've mostly just been listening to their last three albums on repeat like a total fangirl, with a little bit of Linkin Park thrown in for good measure. In my last currently post, I said I wasn't loving their new album or their new sound, but I gave it another listen a month or so ago, and now I can't stop playing it. It turns out I love it, and there are actually some really great songs on it.  I don't know how I didn't hear it the first time.

Stitching

I've gone back to cross stitching my colourful mandala cross stitch from The World in Stitches. after setting it aside for a couple of months to work on Christmas craft projects at the end of last year. I've just finished stitching all the colourful bits, and now I just have a shed load of black edging to do to complete it. There's still a lot of stitching to do, but I'm really pleased with how well it's turned out so far.

Playing

I began playing Animal Crossing New Leaf the day after Boxing Day after my younger sister gave me a copy for my 2DS for Christmas, and I haven't been able to stop playing it since. I mean, I do put it down every once in a while so I can do other stuff like sleep and eat, but I've been playing it almost every day since I started. It's so addictive! I don't even want to know how many hours I've lost to this game so far this year! It's a social simulation game where you create and maintain your own town and interact with other characters. You plant trees and flowers, install amenities, build a house and collect furniture to decorate it with, dig for fossils, fish and dive for sea creatures, catch bugs, collect fruit and art, donate things you find to a museum, buy outfits, go island hopping, play time trials... the list goes on. I used to tease my sister for being addicted to it, but now it's got me, too. I'd definitely recommend it to you guys... but only if you don't mind losing five or six hours a day to it, because once you start playing, you won't be able to stop!

Loving

my new Instax mini camera, which one of my sisters gave me for Christmas. It's been years since I last owned an instant camera or even printed off any photos, so I've been enjoying the novelty of having a printed photo in my hands after taking each one. The quality of the photos doesn't compete with today's digital photos, but I actually like the simple, primitive look the Instax gives; it reminds me of the quality of photos we took in the nineties. It was a simpler time, but those days were the best. I'm still getting to grips with it, but I'm loving this camera, and how pretty it is. I've just bought some pastel-bordered film, so I'm looking forward to snapping lots of colourful photos with it this spring.

Enjoying

The sunshine we've been treated to here in Oxfordshire this week. We've had flawless blue skies and sunshine over the last few days, and it's actually been warm. From Monday to Wednesday, it actually got up to 21'C!! In February! You wouldn't think there was snow on the ground three weeks ago. Apparently it was the hottest February on record. It's crazy but I'm definitely not complaining after months of dreary grey skies, dark evenings, and freezing cold temperatures. I wasn't able to go out in it, but it was gorgeous and great to have some decent daylight for taking blog photos, too. It feels like spring is finally on the way.

Looking

forward to spring, sunny days, light mornings and evenings, warm weather, blossom and magnolias on the trees, spring flowers, pastel colours, Easter, more light for blog photos... all of it. I couldn't be happier that it's the first day of spring today; I'm so over winter!

Wanting

All the books, all the gig tickets, more concert adventures, some new dresses, approximately 8232019 new brooches, some rainbow-coloured film for my Instax camera... lotsa stuff.

Needing

A hair cut, a holiday, some new clothes, a life, a new pair of ballet pumps, some more concert adventures, more hours in the day, a solution for my tachycardia, and to learn photo editing so I can blog more efficiently and stop wanting to pull my hair out on a daily basis.

Wishing

I'm feeling really sentimental at the moment, so I wish had a time machine so I could go back and relive my trip to New York, and a whole bunch of concert adventures I enjoyed with friends in the months before I developed chronic pain in 2011. Those were the best times, and some of the last happy memories I have from before I got sick. It was probably the best year ever, until it also became the worst year of my life that September. I miss those days.

Buying

I haven't had many spare pennies to spend lately, but I was finally able to do a little book haul a couple of weeks ago, and treated myself to six new books to read. (Missing from the photo is An Ocean of Minutes by Thea Lim). I may have also acquired two more Erstwilder brooches, and picked up a full size purple OPI nail polish called 'Berry Fairy Fun' to replace the mini bottle I got in my Advent calendar and have almost used up. The nail colour is amazing.

And that, in a nut shell, is what I've been up to lately (minus all the boring chronic illness parts I'll go in to another time).

What about you? What have you been enjoying lately?
