Wednesday Wish List

Happy Halloween, everyone!

I can't believe it's the last day of October already; this month has just flown by. It doesn't feel like Halloween today, but I'm looking forward to watching some Halloween movies later (especially Hocus Pocus!), carving a pumpkin, and enjoying some Halloween sweets tonight all the same. That's all I have planned; I never do anything exciting for Halloween, and while I'd love to celebrate it like they do in America, a movie night suits me just fine.

Have you got anything fun planned?

Anyway, let's move on to what you're here for... this week's (non-spooky) Wednesday Wish List, which is filled with some of the fashion accessories I've been coveting this week.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

I'm loving this collection of dinosaur acrylic jewellery from Etsy brand Totem and Arrow, especially the diplodocus necklace. (The long-necked dinosaurs were the best kind of dinosaurs)! These are just a handful of the pieces I have my eye on, so if you like these, be sure to check out their Etsy shop because there are so many other fantastic pieces to choose from.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

Irregular Choice have just released Bambi and Dumbo collections, featuring shoes, bags, and purses, and they're both to die for. Seriously, look how cute these coin purses are! I can't even decide which one I love best.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

And these are some of my favourite shoes from the Irregular Choice Bambi collection. Aren't they all amazing? I could never afford to buy any of them, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

Truffle Shuffle have the most adorable Mary Poppins collection from Mad Beauty, and I love it all! I need that umbrella! I'm also obsessed with the penguin salt and pepper shakers, which will be available at the end of November. Cutest salt and pepper shakers ever? I think so.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8

Little Moose have just released a collection of skeleton acrylic jewellery, and they have to be some of the cutest skeleton designs I've ever seen. Who knew skeletons could play accordions, maracas, and guitars?

1 // 2

And last but not least, these Christmas novelty bags from Betsey Johnson are adorable, and would be perfect for accessorising all of those festive outfits. Yes, I know it's Halloween, but Christmas really isn't far off now, so it's a good time to start planning!

If you'd like to see more of the pieces on my fashion wish list, check out my style wish list boards on Pinterest. You can also find all previous Wednesday Wish List posts here.

The October Blog Tag

I can't remember the last time I did a 'tagged' post, so I thought it would be fun to answer The October Blog Tag, which I recently came across via Jemma's blog, Dorkface

The tag was created by Lisa from Oh Luna to help you learn more about the blogger behind the blog, and it seemed like the perfect post to help you get to know me a little better. If you ever wondered why I started blogging, if I like pineapple on pizza, or what my favourite thing to do in October is, this is the day you'll find out!

Name

Louise Christine P.

What Is Your Favourite Colour?

Probably green (especially emerald), but I really like turquoise, teal, and cobalt blue a lot, too.

What did you do today?

I've been lounging on my bed watching TV, played a game of fetch with my dog in the garden, prepared some blog posts, finished the last eighty pages of my book, and worked on a Christmas cross stitch project for an hour or two.

Where are you currently?

Lying on my bed at home in Oxfordshire.

What is your star sign?

I was born in early July, so I'm a cancer.

Cake or ice cream?

Definitely cake; is there anything better?

Frozen or Moana?

Moana; I can't stand Frozen!

A night in or a night out?

I'm a typical introvert, so I'd rather have a night in. Unless the night out involves a concert, in which case I'd choose a night out every time.

Home cooked meal or takeaway?

It depends on my mood. Some meals are better home-cooked, but others like Chinese food and pizza are definitely better from the takeaway.

Pineapple on pizza or no pineapple on pizza?

I'm a pineapple on pizza kind of girl. Hawaiian is the best kind of pizza.

Books or films?

Don't make me choose- I love both! If I had to choose, though... today I'd probably say books as I've really found my reading mojo again lately, and can't get enough of them, but tomorrow, I might say films because I'm a movie geek, too, and my heart flits between the two.

Autumn or Spring?

I love autumn, but my favourite season is actually spring. I just love it when the evenings start getting lighter again after a long dark winter, pretty pink blossom and magnolias bloom from the trees, all the leaves start returning, the weather gets milder, colourful spring flowers are everywhere... Then there's Easter and pastel colours and spring fashion and months of light evenings ahead... it's the best!

Flowers or chocolates?

It depends on my mood; I wouldn't turn down either. Flowers are a real treat, even if it's just a £1 bunch of daffodils I've bought for myself, and chocolates, well, they make any day better, don't they?

Full fat or diet coke?

I actually can't drink either right now as caffeine aggravates my tachycardia and I've had to cut it out of my diet, but I usually prefer full fat coke. Especially when it's from a glass bottle, served with ice and a slice of lemon. Yum! TBH, it's been so long since I last drank it, I bet it would taste too sugary now, and I'd prefer diet again.

Phone or laptop?

Laptop! I use it so much more than I use my phone, as I prefer typing on a real keyboard and having a bigger screen. I use it for everything- blogging, social media, email, shopping, listening to music, photos, online banking, booking medical appointments and prescriptions... I couldn't live without it.

What is your current favourite TV series?

The Big Bang Theory.

What is your favourite thing to do in October?

I'm not sure I could pick just one thing! I love taking walks to crunch through paths covered in leaves, spending the dark evenings crafting, curling up under a cosy blanket with a good book, carving pumpkins, watching Halloween-themed movies... there's so many great things to do in October.

What is your current food to crave?

Right now I keep craving Snickers chocolate, and salted popcorn.

Do you have any piercings or tattoos?

I have two tattoos; a group of stars, dots, and swirls on my wrist, and a floral design on my foot. I was just getting in to them when I got ill, and I know I'd be covered in them by now if I hadn't. There are so many more I want, but I just can't afford them right now.

I do have my ears pierced, too, but just once in each ear. That's it for piercings. I keep meaning to get more in my ears but I never seem to get round to it. I'm definitely more of a tattoo girl.

Are you an introvert or extrovert?

I'm definitely an introvert. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy spending time with people and I'm not anti-social, but I've always found socialising draining, and need time to myself to recharge. I value time alone to do my own thing, and rarely get bored in my own company the way most people do.

What is your all time favourite Halloween film?

There's so many great horror movies I love to watch at this time of year, but let's be honest; nothing beats Hocus Pocus! I have to watch it every year.

Name your top three favourite artists / bands.

Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Boyzone / Ronan Keating.

Have you got any plans for Halloween?

Not really; I haven't done anything exciting for Halloween since I was a kid. I'm planning to carve a pumpkin, but apart from that, I'll just be watching Hocus Pocus and a couple of other Halloween movies, and stuffing my face with sweets.

Do you have any fears?

Yes, I have many:

♥ Enclosed spaces. (I'm extremely claustrophobic).
♥ Spiders and daddy long legs'. (I actually fell up the stairs last month and bruised and carpet-burned my legs because I saw a daddy long legs and freaked!)
♥ Dying a horrible death by drowning, burning in a fire, or being in a car crash.
♥ Death... the uncertainty of whether that's it, lights out, or if something else comes next.
♥ Being alone for the rest of my life... not romantically, but literally having no one in my life as I get older.
♥ Not being able to work again due to my health, having no financial support, not being able to pay my bills or afford food, and ending up on the streets... This actually keeps me awake at night far too often.

Do you believe in life after love?

# I can feel something inside me say, I really don't think you're strong enough... #

Do you have any children? (Or animals you treat as babies)?

I don't have any human children, but I have a two (almost three) year old Tibetan terrier called Rosie, who's my little fur baby. Yep, I'm that crazy dog lady who spoils her dog rotten, and talks about her proudly, like she's my child.

What do you want for your future?

Happiness, good people in my life, my own home, some financial security...

I'd love to have good health and be pain free again one day, too, but I know that's extremely unlikely to ever happen, so I hope that my conditions will at least be manageable, and won't get much worse than they are now.

I always hoped for a career in animal care again, as well, working with zoo animals or perhaps caring for sick and injured critters, but at the moment, it doesn't look likely that I'll be able to do manual work again, so this might not be on the cards, either. My future is full of uncertainty.

Be honest, why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I needed something to keep me occupied on bed rest with chronic pain. I'd been house bound for six months, and I was going stir crazy from being stuck at home doing the same things every day (there's only so much watching day time TV, reading, and mindlessly surfing the Internet a girl can do before it starts to get old), and I needed a distraction.

I'd been following body positivity and plus size blogs on Tumblr for a few months, and as a plus size girl with a love of fashion but zero body confidence, I was so inspired by their style and confidence that it began to change how I saw myself. For the first time in my life, I had a little body confidence, and out of nowhere, I suddenly thought it would be fun to have somewhere to share my own outfits, and a place where I could work towards self-acceptance. So, I signed up to Blogger, created a blog, and the rest, as they say, is history.

What is your biggest achievement so far?

Making it through over seven years with excruciating chronic pain and chronic illness without falling apart, even though my entire life has been turned upside down and changed beyond recognition.

What are your ambitions with your blog?

I'd love to keep improving my content and photos, see it grow, and work with some of my favourite brands.

If there is one thing you'd like to change about your blog what would it be?

I wish my photography was better. I try so hard to make my photos look good, but no matter how hard I try, I suck at photo editing.

Have you achieved any blog goals you set out to do this year?

I haven't achieved anything major, like gaining a huge following or anything, but I did finally rebrand my blog with a Pipdig blog design in March, which was a long over due goal. I'm still so happy with it all these months later.

Where do you want to be in ten years time?

I'd like to be happy, pain-free, physically more mobile so I can be out there living my life, surrounded by friends and family, living in my own home, and achieving my dreams.

What is your dream holiday?

My dream holiday was always New York, which came true in 2011, and was the best holiday ever. Now, I'm dreaming of going to Austria, Italy, Greece, Amsterdam, and Australia, and taking an epic road trip all over America. I want to see everywhere from The Carolinas to Salem, and Chicago to Alaska... just not while that orange-tinted twat is running the country.

If you had an entire day to yourself, what would you do?

Being a housebound introvert, I regularly have entire days all to myself, so it wouldn't be a rare treat for me, but I always relish some time to myself. I'd do some blogging, curl up with a book, watch a movie or two, do lots of crafting, and relax with some good food, a face mask, and a manicure. Pre-chronic-pain Louise would have also gone shopping, and got her eyebrows done.

And that's The October Tag.

I tag... anyone who wants to take part! If you decide to give the tag a go yourself, make sure you leave a link to your post in the comments because I'd love to read your answers!

So, now you've read my answers, do we have any of these things in common?

OPI Disney The Nutcracker And The Four Realms Beauty Advent Calendar Review 2018

Over the last five or six years it's become a tradition of mine to count down the days 'til Christmas with a beauty Advent calendar. I love the daily ritual of opening a cardboard window, box, or drawer each day of Advent to find a beauty product waiting for me inside- it makes every day of December feel like Christmas morning!

I decided I wanted to go with a nail polish Advent calendar again this year as I enjoyed the experience so much last Christmas, and haven't treated myself to some new nail colours in ages. I was torn between Ciaté's and OPI's calendars, but eventually decided to go with OPI's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, as I found the nail shades the most irresistible.

The calendar arrived earlier this week, and I was so impressed with what I found inside that I just had to review it for you guys.

Before I start the review, please note this post contains spoilers and photos of the nail polishes you'll find in the calendar, so if you don't want to spoil the surprise for yourself, you may want to stop reading here. What I can tell you without giving anything away, is that this calendar is amazing, full of beautiful nail shades, and is well worth the purchase. If you are here for the spoilers, however, keep reading, and I'll tell you all you need to know.

So, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Advent calendar is part of OPI's new Christmas collection in collaboration with the upcoming Disney movie 'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms'.

This twenty-five day Advent calendar features twelve of the fifteen brand new limited edition Nutcracker nail shades which have been inspired by the colours of the four realms- The Land of Flowers, The Land of Snow, The Land of Sweets, and The Fourth Realm. It also includes thirteen popular classic OPI nail colours, including shades from last year's wintry Iceland collection, so there's an almost perfect balance of new and classic nail shades waiting for you inside.

There are festive reds, delicate pinks, icy whites, decadent golds, mesmerising blues, and so much more, providing you with something for every mood, outfit, and occasion to keep your nails looking fabulous throughout the Christmas season- and beyond.

The twelve nail shades included from The Nutcracker collection are:

♥ Berry Fairy Fun
♥ Black to Reality
♥ Candied Kingdom
♥ Dancing Keeps Me On My Toes
♥ Dazzling Dew Drop
♥ Dreams Need Clara-Fication
♥ Envy the Adventure
♥ Ginger's Revenge
♥ Lavendare To Find Courage
♥ March in Uniform
♥ Tinker, Thinker, Winker?
♥ Toying With Trouble

And the thirteen classic colours include:

♥ Alpine Snow
♥ A-Rose At Dawn... Broke By Noon.
♥ Aurora Berry-Alis
♥ Black Cherry Chutney
♥ Bogota Blackberry
♥ It's A Girl!
♥ Less Is Norse
♥ Princesses Rule!
♥ Reykjavik Has All The Hot Spots
♥ Samoan Sand
♥ Charged Up Cherry
♥ Suzi & The Arctic Fox
♥ Berlin There Done That

The polishes also come in a selection of finishes, and include shades from the Infinite Shine, Gel Color, and Nail Lacquer OPI collections.

The calendar is filled with beautiful nail colours, although, it does contain a lot of pinks, reds, blues, and purples instead of covering a whole spectrum of colours, which may be good or bad depending on the kind of nail shades you like to wear. Reds are my favourite nail shades, and I also enjoy painting my nails in all the colours of the rainbow, so I do love the polishes in this calendar... but it would've been nice to have just a little more variety. I think eight pink polishes in one calendar is quite excessive- even if they are all different. Still, I'm looking forward to trying them all, and I'm sure I'll wear all but the nudes to death. I'm particularly excited to try the festive reds and that gorgeous green, which are the main reason I chose this calendar over Ciaté's; they look stunning, and perfect for wearing over the festive season.

Each bottle of nail polish inside this year's Advent calendar is an OPI 3.5ml mini, so if you were hoping the calendar was filled with full-sized OPI nail polishes, you may be disappointed. Yes, these mini polishes are small in size, but they look so cute, and they're the perfect size for popping in your handbag or suitcase to use on the go. I'm not sure how many manicures each bottle gives (does anyone know the answer?), but I'd estimate at least half a dozen two-coaters, if not more, so you still get a lot of manicures for your money. I think this calendar is a great way to try lots of new shades, especially if you want to decide which colours you like before you commit to a full sized bottle, as they are quite expensive.

My only bug-bear is that the names of the shades aren't printed on the bottles, which could make it difficult to identify the correct shade if you want to reorder a polish once you've used it up. The names are printed on the back of the packaging, but without images to help you identify which is which, that might not solve the problem for some of the shades.

The calendar itself is crafted from thin but sturdy cardboard, and features images from The Nutcracker and the Four Realms movie. The front of the packaging features an image of Mackenzie Foy (young Murph from Interstellar) as Clara, dressed in a blue gown in front of a palace lined with soldiers and a mesmerising sky that looks like an oil painting.

The golden edged calendar then opens on a hinge to reveal twenty-five numbered windows, each in numerical order, with a background of the palace flanked with soldiers and lanterns lighting the way towards the doors. It's a beautiful design, but as I've not yet seen the movie, I can't say it wows me. I think you'd have to have seen the movie and get some context to really appreciate the imagery.

Overall, my first impressions of the OPI Advent calendar are almost entirely positive, and I'm so glad I chose it to countdown to Christmas with this year. The nail colours are stunning, and I think it was definitely worth the purchase. I can't wait for December 1st to arrive so I can start opening the windows, and begin wearing them all!

I'll be giving you a closer look at each polish (with swatches) over on Instagram every day of Advent, so make sure you're following me on Instagram if you'd like to follow along.

The OPI The Nutcracker and The Four Realms Advent calendar retails for £59.95, although I found it from Candy Shop Cosmetics for just £47.95 (with free delivery)! Delivery took about six working days, it was well packaged, and I also got a free mini OPI nail polish in my parcel, so I'd definitely recommend them.

You can also purchase the calendar from John Lewis, Nail Polish Direct, Sephora, and 123 Hair and Beauty,

Will you be treating yourself to a beauty Advent calendar this year, or will you be going with something a little more traditional?

Wednesday Wish List

Here are a few things I've been lusting after this week...

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

Shop Disney have brought out the most amazing collection of Disney clutch bags which have been designed to look like the original VHS tapes from the nineties! (There are also matching notebooks for all you stationery fans...) OMFG, I love them all, but particularly the Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin designs. The good news? They're only £17 each!

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette

The new Naked Cherry eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay looks absolutely dreamy. Those colours! It's definitely going on my Christmas list.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

Lady Vintage have such a fun selection of Halloween print dresses this year. I particularly love the amazing Wasted Unicorn (skeleton unicorn print!) Hepburn dress, although I'm afraid the only plus size left is a size 20.

1 // 2

I featured these pieces last Halloween, but I still really love Hell Bunny's Harlow Halloween print clothes. I wish I could afford to treat myself to either to wear this fright night.

Too Faced Gingerbread Spice Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced always make the best eyeshadow palettes, and the new Gingerbread Spice palette looks like one of the best yet. The shades look gorgeous, and that packaging is so damn cute! I think I'm going to need it.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

Giraffes have always been one of my favourite animals, so I'm naturally obsessed with Little Moose's new collection of giraffe acrylic jewellery. I just can't decide which piece I love best.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

Tatty Devine have the cutest newt and frog necklaces and brooches, which would be perfect for finishing a witch or Harry Potter inspired outfit or costume this Halloween.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

And I'm loving these amazing Halloween print dresses and skirts from Kitschy Witch Designs, especially the yellow Halloween frolic print dress. They cater to sizes S to 3X.

Sunday Favourites #349

Hi guys,

I'm sorry it's been another quiet week on the blog; I've been full of cold all week, and have spent most of it curled up under my blanket like a burrito with a box of Kleenex. I've been feeling like death, so I just haven't had the energy or brain power to write anything- and believe me, I've tried. My brain fog has been so bad this week, you'd think I'd forgotten the English language! Hopefully in a day or two I'll have kicked this cold and my brain fog will have lifted, so I'll be able to blog more this week. I'm feeling hopeful, so let's hope for the best and kick things off with this week's Sunday Favourites.

I love this colourful Beatles 'Yellow Submarine' sign from Truffle Shuffle.

These DIY bat felt ball drink stirrers by A Kailo Chic Life are so darn cute.

I need this amazing Moomin book cross body bag from House of Disaster! I loved the Moomins cartoons when I was growing up.

I rarely seem to get my eyeliner even on both eyelids, so this uneven eyeliner acceptance club patch by Krystan Saint Cat is right up my street. Anyone with me?

These DIY mid-century geometric pumpkins from A Kailo Chic Life are so pretty. Who says pumpkins have to look creepy for Halloween?

If you're not a fan of carving pumpkins in to Jack o' lanterns, how about having a go at these awesome DIY no-carve cactus pumpkins from Aww Sam?

This t-rex planter from Truffle Shuffle is so tacky and I love it.

I've never painted a pumpkin before, but I really want to have a go at creating some colourful abstract designs like these abstract pumpkins from Oh Joy.

I'm loving The Salty Canary's home office desk makeover. This space would sure inspire me to get to work.

Studio DIY's croissant clutch is too cute!

This punch needle rainbow is so pretty, and you can even learn to make one at Fall For DIY's workshop next Sunday in London. (More info via the link).

I love this sea of colourful DIY rainbow pumpkins from The House That Lars Built. I'd definitely recreate it if I had the budget, and so much space by my front door.

I wish I knew how to use a sewing machine because this festive bat dress DIY from A Beautiful Mess is amazing.

These DIY monstera leaf pumpkins from Sarah Hearts would sure brighten up your home for Autumn.

A Kailo Chic Life's Halloween mantle has got to be the prettiest Halloween mantle I've ever seen.

How cute are these DIY mini playhouse pumpkins from A Beautiful Mess? They're so creative!

And Heidi Annalise's Altoid tin art is incredibly beautiful.
