Lost in paradise...

Hey there, constant readers,

I hope you're all having a good start to the weekend.

I've noticed I've gained several new followers over the last couple of days; so a big hello and welcome to you if you've just joined me! Thanks for following me. I don't bite so don't be afraid to comment on my posts. That goes for anyone who's been following for a while, too.

When you think of palm trees, what do you think of? Chances are you might conjure up a stereotypical picture postcard beach scene. I'm sure most of us have daydreamed of lounging in a hammock between two trees with a good book in one hand and a pina colada (bought to us by a handsome waiter, naturally) in the other. I can just see the clean turquoise water lapping gently on to the soft white sandy shore, and feel the warmth of the sun on my skin now... heaven...

I'm sure what ever you associate palm trees with [insert romantic stereotypical day dream here], you think of summer. Something we've not had much of in England this year. The hot sunny days have been replaced with grey skies and a torrent of rain for weeks now. The dismal weather has kept me from wearing cheerful summer prints... until yesterday, that is. The clouds parted for the afternoon and brought back some sunshine. So... I allowed myself to finally wear the palm tree dress I was given for my birthday... Naturally it's raining again today, so I'm glad I took the opportunity while it lasted.

This skirt is fuller than it looks!

I like to play with swishy skirts...

It's not often that you find me wearing monochrome. Most people have more black in their wardrobes than colour, but with me it's the other way around. I still find this odd considering I've always been shy and self-conscious, and would rather hide away than draw attention, but for some reason I feel confident dressing in patterns and colour, and can go out with my head held high wearing them.

My parents got me the black crochet shrug and dress for my birthday (although I chose them), and I love them. The dress is fun, and summery; with a square neckline and a zip fastening to the back. The waist is fitted, and the skirt has a flattering flare to it. It's refreshing to have a summer dress that isn't a brightly coloured billowing cotton or chiffon floral. This dress gives me that holiday feeling without even leaving the house!

What goes better with palm trees than flamingos? Nothing, that's what!

I didn't realise until I uploaded the photos that you can see my bra through the fabric. I can't deny it any longer; I wear polka dots under my clothes, as well as on them. I might as well match the freckles, right? I really should invest in some white and nude underwear.

If you've been following my blog for a little while, you've probably seen this locket pop up a few times. If you're new, than you might not have seen it yet. I bought it from an Alice and Wonderland inspired jewellery stall in Camden Lock Market (in London) a couple of years ago. The jewellery in the range was all hand made. This fully functioning locket was £25, and considering how often I've worn it, it was worth every penny. I'm proud to say it's one of my favourite pieces of jewellery.

I carried on the pearl and monochrome theme with a corsage bracelet. It's another accessory I've had for a couple of years, and I still think it's so pretty.

I also tried out my new Barry M Emerald Green nail polish last night. It's a little too metallic for my taste, so I might try mixing it with a crackle top coat. I feel a little like I've painted strips of Christmas curling ribbon to my nails!

Dress: Dorothy Perkins
Shrug: Lovedrobe @ New Look
Tights: Evans
Necklace: Camden Lock Market
Bracelet: I want to say either Accessorize or Dorothy Perkins... I forget.
Nail Polish: Barry M nail paint in Emerald Green

Oh, and if you're wondering about the title... it's the name of an Evanescence song off of their recent self-titled album. I have been playing a lot of their music this week, and I can't seem to get this beautiful song out of my head. I'd really recommend their music if you're unfamiliar with them. They've been one of my favourite bands for almost a decade now. Give them a listen!

Enjoy your weekend, guys
