I intended to share this outfit with you last week, but the photos didn't come out well; so I didn't, and I've been too immobile to wear anything but PJs since the start of the weekend. I couldn't stand feeling like a scruff any longer, and forced myself to shower and dress yesterday.
I had to prop myself against the wall to stay standing for a few photos. I'm still struggling with the pain, but I needed something to keep myself occupied. I need to keep myself distracted as much as possible, and creating a blog post actually gives me something to focus on, and keeps my mind busy for a few hours. This is actually one of the reasons I started this blog in the first place. There's only so much reading and staring in to space I can do without going crazy.
This outfit was worn to the supermarket last week... (My first trip out of the house in a month, and I go to the supermarket... oh my life is so exciting...) and I recreated the outfit for you yesterday.
The dress is a new penny farthing dress from Dorothy Perkins, which I bought last week on sale with some birthday money. I was attracted to the shirt-dress because of the quirky print- I can never resist a whimsical pattern, and this print is so unusual and fun. Fashion should be fun!
The dress gets a big thumbs up from me; I love the shape, and the flared skirt. Anyone thinking of buying this dress should know that the fabric is a litte thin and see through, and that it doesn't have a lot of room in the chest area. The dress in general is quite small fitting, so sizing up is advised.
I've dressed it casually with leggings; a denim jacket; blue ballet pumps; and a robin brooch. I'm wondering how I ever lived without a denim jacket in the years since the nineties... they're just so versatile!

The robin brooch was a gift from my Sister for my birthday last week, and part of a set of three. The little cutie is made from metal. I'm already in love with it.
Cath Kidston robin brooch on the jacket.

The quilted blue ballet flats came from New Look. I think I bought them last year, and have only recently started to wear them. They still need a bit of breaking in, but they're very comfortable.
This is one of my newly acquired Barry M nail paints. I tested it out yesterday, and I have to say the shade is absolutely beautiful. When I ordered it, it looked teal in the photo provided, but it's a very dark green. I'd call it 'beetle green'; it almost has a hint of black to it. The shade is by Barry M and called 'Racing Green' (shade 299).
Barry M has been my go-to brand for years because of the selection of colours. If you're looking for bold, long lasting, polishes with good coverage, this is the brand for you. The polishes are very affordable- usually starting from as little as £2.99.
My nails in these photos have had two coats applied to them.

In other news, I was a bit peeved to get two emails yesterday telling me that the Clements Riberio matchstick trousers and Two Faced eye shadow palette I ordered couldn't be supplied due to insufficient stock. I'm a little disappointed as I loved the trousers especially, and was looking forward to wearing them. I knew the bargains were too good to be true!
I managed to console myself by ordering a sun dress from Dorothy Perkins which had been out of stock in my size, and miraculously available again in the sale! It came today, along with a ring and necklace I'd ordered from ASOS. Coming soon to an OOTD...
I hope you all have a great Tuesday.
I love demin jackets over pretty, floaty dresses! And that pennyfarthing print is adorable :)
ReplyDeleteMe too. They make such a simple but effective outfit together. I'm in love with the ptint myself :)
Deleteyou're a tough cookie! you look fabulous, the dress is sweet and suits you and looks great with a denim jacket, i think barry m is a great polish range - i'm with you on the disappointment over internet sale shopping - the elation over getting a great bargain and the deflation when reading the 'sorry' email grrr - however you did good getting the dress, it must have been fate x
ReplyDeleteAww thank you, Maria :). Barry M is fantastic for such an inexpensive range. The great successful finds recently outweigh the things I've missed out on. I think the dress was fate, too x
DeleteYou look lovely. Your dress is very pretty. And I love your hair. Ahh boo about not getting the Evans things, it's disappointing when you want something xx
ReplyDeleteAw thank you so much Gemma :). My hair is a bit of a mess at the moment. It's in need of dyeing, and is usually quite bold red. I'm not much of a fan of Evans, and I think the unsuccessful purchase was telling me so! xx
DeleteLove the dress, you look lovely as always :) x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sian :) x
Deletesorry that your not feeling the best i hope that you feel better soon :) you look fab in that dress your so cute!! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel. I'll be fine; I always am :). Thanks so much :) xx
Deletegorgeous outfit! i love that nail varnish too. <3 however i only just bought green glitter i can't be encouraged to get any more! xD is it really sad that since i've been at uni i love going to the supermarket? it's like a comfort to me or something... it reminds me of being younger and the safety of having a routine, even though i hated going to the supermarket back then.. xxx
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Hannah :). The nail varnishes are gorgeous in real life. Green glitter is always a must! No, not at all. It's always a good excuse to raid the beauty aisles, pick up magazines, or even clothes these days. And it's more fun when you're buying things you want! It's the only place I get to apart from the hospital right now; how sad is that?! Lol. xx
DeleteAaaand now I'm thinking of getting a denim jacket. I love this outfit, the jacket and shoes are especially amazing. You look lovely :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I've been such a horrible friend lately, I've been mostly just lying in bed and reading - I think I have circulation problems or something because of the heat, I haven't been feeling well. I'll write to you soon though, I promise! :)
You should- it would be perfect for Autumn. I think this one is now in the DP sale. Thanks hun :)
DeleteYou've not been a horrible friend at all. I'm sorry you've been feeling unwell :(. That sounds horrible... and so, you're the one who stole the heat! Haha. Feel better soon xx
