Christmas Bedroom Tour 2018

Last Christmas, in the chaos of the festive season, I never found the time to finish putting my Christmas Bedroom Tour post together to show you guys my Christmas decor. It seemed a shame to scrap a half-completed post, so I've kept it in my drafts all year to share this Christmas instead. I thought I'd kick off the festive season by looking back at how I decorated my bedroom for Christmas last December, and then I can get working on putting together this year's post- hopefully before next Christmas comes around!

I always decorate my bedroom for Christmas as I spend so much time on bed rest with my chronic pain, and don't often make it downstairs to enjoy the main decorations. I don't like to miss out on the festive cheer and pretty fairy lights just because I'm stuck in bed, so I always turn my bedroom in to a winter wonderland, too. My room may look like Christmas threw up on it, but the decorations make me happy each December, so I don't care.

Last year, I mostly decorated with colourful and kitsch decorations, and left the more traditional red, green, and white decorations packed away. I never actually decorate with a theme for Christmas; I just bring out my favourite ornaments year after year as I'm sentimental all the way when it comes to Christmas decor. It just so happens that most of my personal Christmas decorations are colourful, kitsch, and / or mid-century style as those are my favourites right now.

I bought a little tree and some white lights from Tesco last year, and dressed it with my favourite vintage-style ornaments, and a handful of vintage decorations my parents bought when they first set up home together in the seventies. They've always been some of my favourites from our family Christmas ornaments, so I borrowed a few to use last year. I still need to buy a tree topper and some kind of garland for my tree, but I never seem to get around to it.

Around the tree, I displayed tiny colourful baubles in glass jars, a few bottle brush trees from Hobbycraft, and a couple of my kitsch fifties-style Bambi deer from Paperchase, which I bought last year and absolutely love. I also sat the white wooden house I made beside it, which has festive backgrounds in some of the nooks, and housed my Christmas brooches and pins, along with a few little festive ornaments.

I wrapped last year's presents in mid-century style wrapping paper from Cath Kidston, a mix of baubles, robins, and snowmen, and embellished them with ribbons and jingle bells. I loved these designs, and I'm gutted Cath Kidston don't have Christmas wrapping paper this year.

My retro tea light holders were all from Cath Kidston several years ago. I bring them out each December, and feel all cosy as candles flicker from them while I'm watching a Christmas movie or reading a book.

Christmas decor isn't just confined to the tree in my house, I like to extend the festive cheer to my bedding as well. I have a few kitsch sets from George at ASDA from previous Christmases. This fifties deer set was new last year, and was so lovely to snuggle up under during December. I can't wait to dig this set out again this year; it's my favourite. ASDA have a similar set again this year here.

I displayed some of the Christmas hoop art I've made over the years on the old chimney breast in my room. I made them by framing festive fabrics in wooden embroidery hoops, and finishing the backs with circles of felt and a stitch. I never managed to get a decent photo of the entire display, so here's one from the year before when I began with less hoops.

On the back of my bedroom door, I hung up my Christmas novelty bags and festive patterned tote bags, and added in other bags in red and green. I then draped my The Snowmen fairy lights over the top.

Above my bookshelf, I hung paper snowflake decorations and a rainbow paper garland, and on my shelves I displayed Christmas books and movies, my little collection of light up decorations, some more kitsch fifties deer ornaments, and a selection of other Christmas decorations. I didn't get decent photos of this section as the daylight was terrible last December and this area of my room was too dark and shadowy, but I'll hopefully snap a few photos for this year's bedroom tour post instead. There will have been a few other festive things dotted around my room that I've missed, but I think I'm going to leave it there.

Christmas Bedroom Tour 2016

I know Christmas is over for another year, and you've all probably packed your decorations away and turned your thoughts to the new year, but I'm a little late to the party, and still have a couple of Christmas posts to blog.

Today, I'm going to share some photos of how I decorated my bedroom for Christmas this year. I had hoped to blog about it before Christmas, but the last few weeks have been so hectic that this is the first chance I've had to finish putting it together. Hopefully next Christmas I'll be much more organised!

So, I like to decorate my bedroom for Christmas every year because I spend so much time on bed rest thanks to chronic pain and chronic illness, and I don't like to miss out on the festive cheer and pretty decorations altogether just because I'm laid up in bed. This year I think I put up more decorations than ever before, and I have to say, I enjoyed having my very own Winter Wonderland during December!

I bought myself a little Christmas tree from Sainsburys again this year, and since I needed to raise it up away from Rosie (my dog), I decided to create a little Christmas display around it on my dressing table. I decorated the tree with white lights, some gorgeous vintage-style baubles, and colourful snowflakes, and filled in the gaps with Scandi pegs and some jingle bells because I ran out of energy and decorations that matched. I know the decorations don't exactly work together and the tree looked terrible but after a while I was in too much pain to care. I definitely need to get some garlands, tinsel or ribbon to fill in the gaps on next year's tree, though.

We didn't put the big tree up downstairs this year because Rosie would have destroyed it, so I put some of the presents I wrapped underneath my tree until Christmas morning. I then built it up with colourful perfume bottles, sweet jars filled with mini colourful baubles, jewelled make up brushes, hummingbird and frog queen decorations, my jewellery holders jazzed up with festive pins and decorations, and even added in my masquerade mask with a flower in its feathers. 

My little collection of festive tea light holders and a Christmas candle I was given last year returned to their spots beside my TV. I'd usually light them each night during December, but this time I only lit them a handful of times; I don't know why, but I really wasn't feeling Christmas at all last month.

I had my pretty red jingle bell heart-shaped wreath hanging from an old light fixture just above the candle holders. I've had it for about three years now and I still can't believe it was a supermarket find.

I decided to overhaul the bags on the back of my bedroom door for Christmas, taking a gazillion bags down and replacing them with my Christmas bags, as well as others in festive red, green, and gold, before draping my snowman fairy lights over them. I actually think this was one of my favourite areas of my bedroom during December! It was oddly satisfying to look at while propped up in bed on my laptop.

Above my bookshelves, I hung a couple of paper snowflake decorations below the rainbow paper garland that I've actually kept hanging up since last Christmas. I personally don't see it as a Christmas decoration, just an every day decoration because of how colourful it is- even if it is similar to those cheap foil Christmas ceiling decorations we always had growing up.

Of course, I also added decorations to my bookshelves, where I could, mixed in with my books, DVDs, trinkets, and a few novelty bags.

My L'Occitane Advent calendar, telephone novelty bag, a vase filled with the remaining mini baubles, and a little wooden Christmas tree took the tallest spot on the shelves.

My LED decorations made friends with my robot bag. Unfortunately, I ran out of batteries by the time I took these photos, so you can't see them in action, but the large tree twinkles quickly with a snowglobe-like effect, and the four small decorations fade in to different colours. 

And I also added in some of the hoop art that I recently made amongst my books and DVDs, along with my old nutcracker candles and a Tatty Teddy ornament. I had hoped to create a wall feature out of hoop art this Christmas, but I ran out of supplies to finish them off properly, so that will have to wait until next Christmas now. I've still enjoyed looking at them propped up on my bookcase, just beyond the laptop screen.

I would usually blog photos of how our living room is decorated for Christmas, but we didn't put the tree up or decorate the fire place this Christmas, because Rosie is still in her everything-is-a-toy phase, but if you're curious, you can see how it was decorated for previous Christmases via the links below.

Christmas Room Tour: My Bedroom 2015

Merry Christmas Eve, everybody! 

I can't believe it's Christmas Day tomorrow! December seems to have flown by for me this year, and there just haven't been enough hours in the day. I've been meaning to blog a little Christmas bedroom tour since I finished putting the decorations up a couple of weeks ago but it's taken me until now to finish taking and editing my photos. Better late than never, though, right?

I began putting up the decorations in my bedroom on the first, but it actually took me an entire week to get everything out- not because I have a million decorations but because the pain has been so bad lately. I could only do a little bit at a time, which got really frustrating, but it gave me a good excuse to over-play my favourite Christmas tunes that week!

I love my little green cut out Scandi tree from Paperchase.

My dressing table is cluttered with all kinds of stuff, but I still found space for a few decorations. I filled my cotton wool jar with tiny colourful glass baubles, and  a tea light holder with colourful gem decorations, and I really love how they look. I'm tempted to keep them on my dressing table all year round. I wanted to get a couple more jars of different sizes to fill with these little baubles, but I never made it down to Hobbycraft in time. I'll have to do it next year instead. I also dotted some frog queen and hummingbird decorations amongst my perfume bottles and trinkets, and strung my adorable Snowman fairy lights over the mirrors. They make me smile every time I look at them.

I got myself some Christmas bedding for the first time this Christmas, which I'm loving snuggling up in every night. The duvet set was just £12 from ASDA, and it's reversible, with the colours inverted on the other side- although, I've only had the white side on show because I like it best. The fleece blanket was a Black Friday bargain that I picked up from BHS for just £12.50! (Half the original price!). It's so warm and cosy! I'll probably keep on using it right through 'til Spring.

I bought a little Christmas tree for my room again this year, a real one from Sainsburys. It was pre-netted so I didn't know it was a little wonky until I got it home, but for a tenner, I really can't complain. It wouldn't win any prizes for beauty, but I still think it's lovely, and it definitely adds some festive cheer to my room. I can't even see the crap side from where I'm sitting. I decorated it with red, white and green honeycomb balls and bells, jingle bell baubles, and some Scandi pegs. I have Christmas decorations in a rainbow of colours, but classic red, green, and white are definitely my favourites.

I love my old heart-shaped jingle bell wreath. I can't believe it was a supermarket find!

My Christmas tea light holders have been getting plenty of use all month. The three glass ones were from Cath Kidston a few Christmases ago, and the wooden one was from The Christmas Boutique last year.

I have two Nutcracker candles sitting on my bookcase, with my bauble novelty bag as a backdrop. The Nutcrackers don't look great up close, but from a distance you can't see the bad paint-jobs. I think they still look really festive.

And last but not least are a bunch of LED colour-changing ornaments that are brightening up my bookcase. The trees are new and came from a local garden centre. The polar bear, green tree, and penguins are old and came from M&S. They fade in to all kinds of colours every few seconds, and they're so relaxing to watch.

And that is how I've decorated my bedroom for Christmas! 

I will hopefully still find time to blog about how the rest of the house has been decorated this year before Christmas is over, but we haven't quite finished yet (things haven't quite gone to plan this year) so we shall have to wait and see.
