Wednesday Wish List

Hi guys,

I'm back with another Wednesday Wish List. I've got a ton of gorgeous things to show you this week, so let's get started!

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

Tesco have recently started stocking clothes from plus size brand Praslin, and I'm smitten with the heart print dresses and tops. The rose print dress is also beautiful.

 1 // 2

Alice & You's denim pinafore is making me all nostalgic for the nineties; I'm sure I had one just like it when I was growing up.

The floral lace insert dress by Lipstick Boutique Plus is absolutely gorgeous; and it's one of those dresses that could easily be dressed up or down with a change of accessories. It needs to come live in my wardrobe!

 1 // 2

As a big Harry Potter fan, I love the new Hogwarts tees and jumpers from New Look. The good news for all you plus size HP fans is that the t-shirt is available in the plus size range, New Look Inspire! (Straight sizes here). I was so excited when I made that discovery! I need to get my hands on one of those tees, even if just for sleeping in. The jumper unfortunately only goes up to a size 18, but it's made from stretchy jersey so may fit a size or two larger.

1 // 2 // 3

I love these three beautiful dresses from Dorothy Perkins. The green rose print maxi dress is stunning.

1 // 2 // 3

I can never resist colourful dresses like this red heart print dress from Lovedrobe or these gorgeous block colour sleeveless skater dresses from Koko. The forest green number is to die for.

 1 // 2 // 3

I've been looking at sleepwear lately, because I could do with a few new sets for Autumn, and F&F at Tesco have some really cute sleepwear at the moment. I love the tartan and unicorn print PJ bottoms and the Chip 'n' Dale short set is so cute. I used to love Chip 'n' Dale and The Rescue Rangers when I was little, so I'm finding it quite hard to resist them..

1 // 2 // 3

I'm in love with these Irregular Choice Cherry Deer and Angel Cakes heels! The deer heels are just about the cutest things I've ever seen in my life!  The blue pair are my favourite.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

I love the buckle and studded ankle boots by Sole Diva for Simply Be, which come in a range of colours and in both E and EEE fittings. I have the studded boots in three colours already (from last AW), and they're the most comfortable boots I've ever worn; I barely took them off last Winter. I'm also in love with ASOS's Missionary creepers; the forest green pair are absolutely gorgeous!

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

I have my eye on several more novelty bags; they just keep on coming! My favourite has to be the eighties mixtape cross body bag from Accessorize, which I'm going to have to treat myself to it at some point! The others from Betsey Johnson and Lulu Guinness are a bit out of my price range right now, but a girl can dream.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

And, finally, these handbags from Amazon are pastel perfection. I particularly love the mint and lilac designs.

What's on your wish list this week?

Which of these are your favourites?

Writing Process Blog Hop

Hi guys,

Today I've got something a little bit different for you: a blog-hop post.

This is the first blog hop I've ever done, and it's all about my writing process.

I was tagged by my lovely friend Trees from the life style blog Adventures of a Girl From the Naki. Trees lives in New Zealand, and regularly blogs about the amazing things she has sewn, her outfits, and her travel adventures (which always make me want to hop on a plane to go visit NZ; it looks beautiful). She's been a blogger friend of mine for a couple of years now, although I can't remember who found whose blog first, and she's awesome, so go check out her blog here.

So, on to the blog hop! Here we go!

1. What are you working on?

I currently have several posts in the works that should be live over the next week or two, thanks to a rare burst of inspiration and motivation. I'm working on a couple of wish lists, a personal piece about my recent CT scan, a book review of a new Listography book, a couple of outfit posts, a peek at some of my jewellery collections, a couple of beauty posts including one where I'll be speaking about my favourite Body Shop products, and a review of my new Zatchels satchel- and that's just for starters!

I'm not a super-organised blogger who has posts organised months in advance, but lately I've been itching to write about so many things. I'm even contemplating taking photos of everything I could write about now before we lose the good summer light to Autumn!

2. How does my work differ from others in the genre?

I'm not sure my work differs all that much from any other style, beauty, and life style blog; there are millions of blogs out there that write about a variety of topics. I share outfits, I review beauty products and books, I post what I've been up to and share weekly favourites... but so do countless other bloggers. The only thing I think really sets me apart from other blogs is that I also write about living with disc injuries from time to time, and how my style has helped to keep my spirits up while house-bound, which I've yet to see done on other blogs.

3. Why do I write what I do?

I do it because I enjoy it! I spend a great deal of my time stuck in bed in severe pain, and can't currently live a normal life; blogging helps me to escape from it all. Blogging gives me something to occupy myself with every day, and a reason to get out of bed in the morning... so to speak. I can only imagine how much the days would drag without this blog to keep me busy, and how much harder everything would be to deal with.

As for the content, I write about the subjects I do because I am passionate about them, have enjoyed them, or want to document them.

I write about plus size fashion not only because I'm plus size and love fashion, but because I want to show other plus size women that we can wear fun, fashionable outfits if we want to- and look good in them. We can wear colourful clothes, bold patterns, and fitted styles. We can have fun with fashion. We don't have to wear shapeless black clothes to disguise our bodies; we have every right to wear what ever the hell we want and there are options out there for us!

I write about my health and medical journey with disc injuries to help anybody who might be going through a similar situation. I've not found many resources online about living with disc injuries and spinal issues that are written by sufferers; almost everything is written by medical professionals, and it's hard to relate to cold medical encyclopedias. I couldn't relate to them and they didn't provide the information I was looking for, so I decided to write about my injuries to fill that void and provide other sufferers with helpful information.

4. How does my writing process work?

I find something I want to write about, and start by taking and editing the photos for the post. I choose the best ones and upload them in a new post. I will sometimes start writing a draft of the post in a notebook, but ninety-nine percent of the time I just write a rough draft straight in to Blogger, and edit it until I'm happy with it. I usually write most of my posts in the early hours of the morning, when everybody else is asleep and I can fully concentrate on what I'm doing. Silence is golden! I don't sleep well, so I'm usually awake all night, and writing helps to keep me occupied. I also write everything from my bed, using my battered old laptop because I don't have a desk and even if I did, I couldn't sit at it for long; I spend most of my time confined to bed. Once my post is written, I'll schedule it for a more social hour, and then it's on to the next one.

I keep a notebook full of post ideas which I return to when I'm stuck for things to blog about and add to regularly. Even with a book full of ideas, I don't often have posts organised more than a day or two ahead. I generally work on the next day's post the night before.

Now it's time to continue the blog hop...

I've nominated three of my lovely blogger friends to continue the hop: Char from T*Rexes and Tiaras, Hannah from Daisies and DMs, and Vicky from The Curved Opinion, who will all be sharing their blog hop posts over the next few days, so make sure you go check them out!

If anybody else reading this post would like to take part, please do so!

Thanks for reading!

712 More Things To Write About Book Review

Exactly a year ago today, I wrote a book review of the creative writing journal 642 Things To Write About, and by bizarre coincidence, today I'm here to review its sequel, 712 More Things To Write About!

I had no idea I was writing this review one year on from its predecessor until a few minutes ago when I looked up the post to link back to in this one; it's freakishly coincidental. The book only made its way in to my hands yesterday afternoon and wasn't even due for release until September 1st! I love it when preorders arrive early! (Thanks, Amazon)! I instantly started reading through all the prompts, and began working through a few, and I knew I had to share this book ASAP, so here I am.

Like the 642 Things to Write About book, 712 More Things to Write About is a creative writing journal filled with hundreds of prompts to provoke your creativity and inspire the writer within. This book has even more brilliant things to write about than the first book, and includes a higher proportion of prompts that can be completed in five to ten minutes, which is ideal for aspiring writers with little time to write.

The book includes a fantastic selection of writing prompts, which touch on a variety of writing types and styles such as fiction, non-fiction, biographical; stories, lists, poems, headlines, and letters. Every prompt is thought-provoking, and the variety is ideal for people who want to practise various styles of writing.

While I can't share all 712 prompts with you, here is a selection of my favourites:

♥ Write the names of five people you've been jealous of.
♥ Write the two lines you would send to a newly-discovered extraterrestrial population- the first ever communication with them- to describe Earth and the human population.
♥ It's your last day on Earth. You're in good health. How do you spend it?
♥ Write about life in a hospital at two in the morning.
♥ Put a slave-owning Mississippi plantation farmer in a room with a Nazi concentration camp guard.
♥ What's the biggest misconception about you? Write the truth of the matter.
♥ Describe a time when quitting was the right decision, even though it hurt your pride.
♥ Where do you least want to be? Describe someone living there every day for the rest of his or her life.
♥ Describe the room where the murder took place, from the victim's point of view.
♥ You find yourself aboard The Titanic with full knowledge of what is going to happen.
♥ Your beloved father who has just been diagnosed with severe kidney disease, asks you to lunch. At lunch, he asks you if you will donate one of your kidneys to him.
♥ This is what my life looks like when nobody is watching.

The book has 336 pages, with one to four prompts per page, and space to complete each task beneath them.

Most of the pages are lined...

...except for those divided in to four which have been given plain paper.

With all tasks given one page or less to write on, every piece of writing has to be short and can be finished quickly. The short but sweet prompts are ideal when you have limited time to spare; it's easy to fill one or two in when you have five or ten minutes to yourself, such as during a coffee break, commute, or even before bed. I usually write a couple before I go to sleep, because for some reason that's when I seem to be most inspired. It's a fantastic book for all creative writers, whether you have a little or a lot of time to dedicate to writing- because it requires no commitment! You can turn to any page you wish at any time and fill in one at random, months apart, or write every day and complete them in order. It's up to you! It also doesn't matter how experienced you are at writing; whether you're a beginner or an expert, there should be no shortage of ideas to inspire you in this book!

The book is about the thickness of a paper back novel, and a couple of inches shorter than A4 in length. It's not pocket sized and it's not light, but it is possible to carry it around with you if you don't mind carrying a heavy bag around with you.

I'm impressed with this book already and I'm inspired by so many of the prompts the book has to offer; I can't wait to fill them all in!

I think this book may be even better than 642 Things to Write About- and I love that book; I've been writing in it regularly for over a year. I knew I had to order the follow up when I heard of it last week, and I'm so very glad I did! If you love 642 Things to Write About, I promise you, you're going to love 712 More Things To Write About, too!

The book retails for £12.99, and should be available from all good book shops. I bought mine from Amazon where  it's currently £9.09 (which you can find here).

Will you be picking up a copy of 712 More Things to Write About?

My Brooch Collection

Hi guys!

Today I thought I'd take you behind the scenes and give you a peek at...

I collect fun, quirky and novelty accessories, from handbags to jewellery. I don't know when my love for quirky accessories first started, but it was over a decade ago. My collections aren't huge, but are growing all the time and one of my favourites is my brooch collection.

My brooch collection is made up of about twenty-three pieces, but at one time it was much larger. (I regularly declutter and pass on pieces I get tired of). I own a variety of modern and vintage brooches, most are quirky designs but I have a few more traditional pieces, too. None of them cost a lot of money, but I love them just the same.

Here's a closer look at my collection...

These three resin brooches are all from Cath Kidston, and I've had them since last Autumn. I love fun, novelty accessories like these three, and I definitely wear them more than any of the others in my collection. They look so cute with many of my dresses, and they're so well made for the £6 (each) they cost me. I can't decide if the strawberries or the toadstool is my favourite.

These three woodland pins were also from Cath Kidston and came as a set of three. They were available an A/W or two ago but I managed to snap them up on sale from an outlet store. I love foxes and have done since I was little, so I couldn't leave without them, and I'm glad I didn't because they make lovely finishing touches to a lot of my Autumn and Winter outfits.

These four are also by Cath Kidston; I have a bit of a Cath Kidston addiction, as you've probably noticed by now! (I own dozens of CK things from jewellery to travel accessories, notebooks and kitchenware. I actually blogged about my collection last year, which you can read here, although my collection has grown since then).

The three metal pins were a birthday present from one of my sisters a couple of years ago; I particularly love wearing the little robin during the festive season. The little wooden blue tit is about a year old, and from the AW13 collection. They're all so cute.

These three brooches are all vintage pieces that I picked up in Camden's indoor Lock Market several years ago. The two green brooches were from a stall specialising in vintage jewellery, and I think the pink one was from a vintage shop called Berty and Gerty. I bought a few others on that trip, but eventually let go of them during a clear out. Unfortunately, the two brooches on the ends have each lost a gem now and are looking a little worse for wear, but I haven't got the heart to throw them out.

I won these three novelty brooches from a giveaway Rachel ran on her blog last year, along with a box full of amazing little goodies. I think Rachel actually made these three in to brooches herself! She's a woman after my own heart; I was obsessed with Sylvanian Families when I was little and I even talked about wanting to turn some in to jewellery! Great minds think alike! I still need to learn how to make jewellery so I can give it a shot. I was also a big fan of My Little Pony growing up, so these three immediately won me over! They're so fun and add a sense of humour to any outfit.

The cameo brooch, featuring Flower from Disney's Bambi was bought from Etsy, but I can't remember which Etsy shop I bought it from. Just as well, really, because it wasn't well made, and I wouldn't have recommended them to you. There's a lot of glue showing on the back where the pin was poorly attached, although thankfully it's not noticeable once it's pinned to my clothes.

The pretty pink bird is another piece I won; I recently won it from Char's giveaway, and it was lovely to unwrap the polka dot paper to find it inside. It's beautiful and so unlike any other brooch I own.

I used to have a bit of a thing for owls, until the fashion world suddenly went owl crazy a couple of years ago and I got bored of seeing the same boring designs everywhere I turned. I still love the feathered kind, but owl accessories can be a bit hit and miss with me these days. The owl brooch on the left was bought when the craze began, either from Topshop or Accessorize; I forget which, and the owl on the right was a present from my Mum, possibly from last Christmas.

These two are both vintage pieces that were passed on to me from family members. My Mum thrifted the pearl brooch a few years ago, and I forget what the story was behind it, but it's a mid-century piece.

The cute little lizard belonged to my Nan, and it was given to me when she died eleven years ago. I don't know how old it is, or where it came from, but I suspect it's just a costume piece. It's sad that I don't even remember her wearing it or know how she came to own it; we didn't have a close grandmother-granddaughter relationship since we didn't live close by for regular visits, I was extremely shy and she was quite reserved. Still, it's one of those pieces of jewellery I cherish because it belonged to her. I think it's a really cute brooch, but I'm too scared to wear it in case it falls off my clothes and I lose it.

And finally, this little red corsage was made and given to me by my Mum. She made it one Christmas and it only took her an hour or two! I wish I knew how to make things like this!

And that's my little brooch collection. It may be small, but it's sure to grow steadily as time goes on. I'm always on the look-out for awesome new designs to add to my dressing table.

So, why do I love brooches?

I love wearing brooches because they're such an effortless form of accessorizing and easily finish off a variety of outfits, while helping to keep cardigans in place over dresses on blustery days. At one time I wouldn't be seen dead in a brooch because 'only old ladies wore brooches!' (-said teenage me), but today there are plenty of fun, fashionable designs for the younger audience which prove that brooches needn't be frumpy.

What about you; do you wear brooches, or would you rather die than be seen wearing one?

Have you got a collection to rival mine?

Wednesday Wish List

Hi guys!

It's time for this week's Wednesday Wish List, and this week I've got twenty of my latest favourites to share with you.

 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

This week I've fallen in love with enough Lady Vintage dresses to fill a wardrobe. Since mine's already over-flowing, I guess it's time to buy a new one! They have dozens of beautiful frocks, and I particularly love their Hepburn swing dresses with the bateau necklines, simply because the style is my most favourite to wear. I'm dying to add the navy and red polka dot designs to my wardrobe! The Isabella dresses, with the sweetheart necklines, are also gorgeous, and the English rose print on both styles reminds me of a red rose print dress I had when I was eight or nine.

1 // 2

I love these two Lindy Bop "Audrey" dresses, which are new in this week. The navy polka dot design is a real classic and it's one of those dresses that would never go out of style. If I get my hands on it, I know I'll keep hold of it for decades. I own three Audrey's now and it's fair to say I'm hooked!

 1 // 2

As much as I love swing dresses, they're not always ideal for every day wear, but these two beauties from Very are much more wearable. The daisy tea dress is by So Fabulous and the polka dot skater dress is by South. I'd wear them both with leggings or opaque tights, and layer them with cardigans when the weather gets colder.

 1 // 2 // 3

Last week I was coveting ASOS Curve's woodland print t-shirt, and this week they've bought out a dress in the same print! I'm crazy about it! It's got badgers, owls, squirrels and foxes all over it, and I want need to add it to my wardrobe zoo.

ASOS have also started selling a selection of clothes from affordable plus size brand Pink Clove. I love the purple rose print jumpsuit and skater dress; isn't the print gorgeous?!

1 // 2 // 3

The fox purse, Parisian weekender bag, and heart print backpack from Accessorize are all so lovely. I already have a weekender bag in the same style, albeit a bit worse for wear now, but they're the best travel bags I've ever used.

1 // 2 // 3

Dorothy Perkins have so many gorgeous Autumnal pieces already, which is getting me excited for Autumn. The burgundy quilted tee would look so cute with the tartan pinafore I have in my wardrobe, and that midi dress is just stunning! I love the midi skirt, too, although something about the green floral print makes me think of Halloween. It would be perfect for the modern-day witch! Haha!
1 // 2

And last but not least, I really like these two velvet link headbands from ASOS. I'd want to wear one with all my A/W outfits.

What's on your wish list this week?

Which of these do you like best?
